The Explorer Unit

Kingsmills Explorer Unit

Explorer scouts are young people aged between 14 and 18 years old.  The explorer scouts make up the fourth section of the scouting movement.

The explorer scout section is a relatively new idea in scouting which was developed to meet the changing needs of the scouts. Through a balanced programme explorer scouts get to partake in a variety of activities which include abseiling and water sports to name a few. There is also the opportunity to attend camps locally, national and even internationally.  The programme consists of 7 sections: outdoor, skills, community, environment, values, relationships and international zones.

There are 3 main awards available to explorers. These are the Chief Scout‘s Platinum and Diamond awards and the Queen Scout award. Also, if you are over 16 you can complete the explorer belt which involves a ten-day expedition in another country. These awards are closely linked to the Duke of Edinburgh Award scheme, which can also be undertaken through the explorer scout section.

Kingsmills Explorer Unit meets on a weekly basis with Crown Explorers under the umbrella name of Phoenix Explorer Scout Unit. This allows the leaders to undertake a more varied programme.
