The Beaver Colony

Beaver Colonies are there for both boys and girls aged between 6-8 years. This is the youngest section in the Scouting family and is where many will begin their Scouting adventures. In last few years Beavers have been able to gain a number of badges for the many things they do at section meetings and at home, as well as their own Chief Scout Award, Bronze. And as anyone who knows a Beaver their is often competitions about who has the most badges.

The Beaver Colony is run under the leadership of John and Rachel who are helped by Struan, an Explorer Scout and Maureen, an Adult Helper and currently we have 20 Beavers and a long waiting list so get your child's name down now!

Each meeting is designed to offer a variety of tasks and games for the youngsters but most importantly is to ensure that everyone has fun. Games and crafts are the main basis of meetings and are adapted to fit the theme of the evenings. Past evenings have included making sweets for our Christmas fete, hallowean crafts and world cup teams and countries. In the summertime the Beavers spent many evenings outdoors in the park at the back of the hall playing rounders, mini Olympics, golf Frisbee and exploring the park. Also at the end of the summer term is a BBQ where family and friends are invited and in the past we have invited Holm Mills Beavers to join us.

In 2006 Beaver across the UK celebrated their 20th Birthday by holding fun days up and down the country. In Inverness the theme was knights and the beaver enjoyed dressing up as knights and designing a personalised shields. They were also lucky enough to meet real life knights at Knight School and were trained to march, got to see the many weapons knights use and got to try jousting 1st hand.

The Beavers are currently looking forward to the many activities planned for them in 2007 in particular the Centenary Camp, mainly because they will get a badge. The will also be completing the Beaver Scout Challenge and you guess it, for another badge.

There is another member of our colony, Busy Beaver! Busy Beaver loves nothing more than going home with beavers for a week and going places with them. In past Busy Beaver has travelled far and wide he has seen many football matches, as well as a trip to Hampden, visited New York City and enjoyed many days at schools.  The adventure of Busy Beaver are coming soon.
